John Sullivan is a highly experienced workers’ compensation consultant, with over 22 years in corporate and underwriting practice. He is a trusted advisor to a number of Australia’s largest corporations across a wide range of industries, including mining & resources, transport & logistics, property management, construction, funds management and retail. John’s experience covers all aspects of the workers’ compensation industry, which allows him to provide his corporate clients with effective and strategic management advice on both the “traditional” and “self-insured” (including Comcare) methods of workers’ compensation.
Before joining Saltwater Insurance Consultants in 2009, John was an Account Director at international insurance broker and advisor Willis, where he was responsible for the provision of strategic advice on large workers’ compensation insurance arrangements and management systems. John has also held management positions with large corporate national employers such as P&O Ports Limited, Star Track Express, and National Account Management for Caltex Australia Limited, NRMA, Boral Limited and IAG.
John regularly manages a number of large national employer’s workers’ compensation advisory projects, and is regarded as a key advisor for human resources managers and commercial managers alike in the “traditional” workers’ compensation field.
In addition to advising upon and supporting the systems and management requirements of self-insurance, John has successfully completed and reported upon financial analysis for a number of organisations considering self-insurance, and regularly manages the engagement of external actuaries and other experts on behalf of corporate clients. John is able to provide strategic advice and guidance for those pursuing a self-insurance license in all jurisdictions.
In his role as a qualified Management Systems Auditor, John has undertaken audits for a number of the largest employers in Australia in retail, construction, transport and logistics, against both traditional and Comcare systems criteria. John played a key role in developing our “Saltwater Report” for audit processes, which in addition to meeting the requirements of regulators, provides our corporate clients with highly regarded recommendations for future development of systems and processes. John’s deep and well-rounded industry experience allows insights well beyond the “tick a box” approach of the traditional systems auditor.

Certified Auditor in RABZSA-AU Management Systems Auditing (Certificate Number 8972) and is currently completing his diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
